【講題】 Compound Semiconductors – Can Taiwan Help?
【摘要】 Compound semiconductors, namely SiC, GaN, GaAs and InP, have made a remarkable entry over the last decades and continue their market ascension.
In the dynamic power electronic industry, wide band gap materials Silicon Carbide (SiC) and Gallium Nitride (GaN) have each penetrated mass markets such as Automotive and Consumer, respectively. Next, industrial, energy and communications markets are poised to provide extra momentum to grow.
On the Optoelectronic side, the ramp-up of VCSELs in consumer and mobile segments started a new wave of technology development and investments. Manufacturers have adapted to 6-inch GaAs wafers to deal with high-volume shipments, in order to address greater demands on cost and capacity compared to the datacom era.
InP is also on the rise with its imminent market entry in consumer, targeting 3D sensing for mobile phone and health monitoring for wearables. This presentation provides insights on the compound semiconductor market’s evolution for Power and Opto. It describes the revenues & shipments of this industry at the device and wafer level, and will address a question which is on everyone’s lips : can Taiwan reproduce its successful semiconductor story for the Compound industry?
