Quote

Taiwan needs to move faster and become a society that appreciates and encourages those who dare to be different and take uncharted paths. Hon Hai Research Institute is not only a platform for technological exchange—it also holds the potential to define markets and the future itself, ultimately shaping products and driving industrial transformation.

About

He has made outstanding contributions to the research and development of high-speed semiconductor devices and high-frequency wireless and mixed-signal circuits for system-on-chip applications in communications, radar, connectivity, and imaging. He is recognized as a leading figure in both fundamental research and practical applications. In recent years, his pioneering work has focused on reconfigurable AI integrated circuits, wireless communication systems, and terahertz technologies. He previously served as President of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.

Expertise

In 1990, while at the High-Speed Electronics Laboratory of Rockwell Science Center in the United States, he led the research and development of heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) and their integrated circuits. Following successful mass production, HBTs became essential transmitter components in mobile phones. To date, more than 10 billion mobile transmitters using gallium arsenide (GaAs) power amplifiers developed from this work have been produced.
