Title: Cold atomic gases for quantum information
Abstract:
In this talk I will be discussing how laser cooled neutral cold atomic gases can be an ideal candidate for applications in quantum information. I will be presenting our work on the experimental realization of a microscope which can detect single atoms with the immediate goal to implement qubit gates in an array of ground state strontium atoms. In addition, I will be presenting our recent observation of quantum interference between photons and single quanta of stored atomic coherence in a non-Hermitian atom-light beamsplitter. Finally, I will be discussing how this quantum interface can find application in quantum memories.

Biography:
Georgios Siviloglou was born in 1978 in Athens, Greece. He has received his bachelor’s degree from the National Technical University of Athens, and his PhD in Optics in the University of Central Florida in 2010. Before joining SUSTech he held postdoctoral positions at the University of Amsterdam and at MIT. His research interests include nonlinear and non-diffracting optics, imaging of quantum particles, and quantum optics in laser cooled atomic ensembles.
